The comedy Romeo and Juliet by the "Taško" theatre is a wild cocktail of genres, blurring the boundaries between medieval travelling theatre, commedia dell'arte traditions and contemporary issues. The performance features a lot of improvisation, live music, songs, good humour and unexpected cultural quotes – from classics to rock opera caricatures. The actors here openly communicate with the audience, so each performance is full of surprises and pulsates with lively energy every time.
The director of the play is Žilvinas Beniušis, a champion of theatrical clowning in Lithuania, an actor, director and teacher who firmly believes that theatre must be born from joy, playfulness and enjoyment, and not from dark suffering. An open, romantic creator, he does not hide his romanticism, but seeks in Shakespeare's classics not dry academic calm, but a living, pulsating and recognizable humanity. In Beniušis's plays, the clowning technique is not cheap humor, but a lively, open relationship with the audience, allowing them to laugh deliciously at their own imperfections.
The “Taško” Theatre is a young, energetic and highly focused troupe of actors, trained by director Valentinas Masalskis at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, which has been operating for seven seasons.
