The legendary musical performance "Free Butterflies" is being revived!
The legendary musical performance "Free Butterflies" is reborn in a new way — more mature, more musical, and even closer to today's audience. It is a story about freedom, love, and the courage to be yourself, making thousands of viewers laugh, think, and believe that true freedom begins with the decision to live your own life.
A young man named Don Baker moves into a small New York apartment for the first time. These are his first steps towards independence — fragile, full of anxiety, but also the courage to prove to himself and the world that he can live his own life. His everyday life is unexpectedly disrupted by his neighbor Jill — a spontaneous, free girl who lives without plans and rules. Their meeting becomes a turning point in both of their lives. However, their relationship faces a serious test: Don's mother, who has protected her son all her life, does not want to let him go. She believes that freedom can be dangerous, and love can be painful. And there is an important reason for this…
This is a sensitive and enlightening story about the courage to choose — to stay safe or finally dare to be free.
In this performance, a special emotional experience is created by the songs performed live by Mantas Jankavičius. Many people are familiar with the song "Butterflies Free", but not everyone knows that it was created specifically for the performance "Free Butterflies". Of course, you will hear the song in this production as well - it has already become an integral part of the performance. The audience will also hear new works by Mantas, which will enrich the story and allow you to immerse yourself in the inner world of the characters.
"I look for multi-layeredness in performances. A purely concert or purely theatrical format in the traditional sense is no longer that interesting to me. Therefore, this performance, like Mantas' last theatrical work, the play "Two on the Roof", which gained immense popularity, will have a live musical part. It will be a performance and a concert in one," says Mantas.
The director of the play, Dainius Kazlauskas, who also directed the first production, says: "Although the story remains the same, it takes on a new color and breath. The set design, music, moments of the play change, the actors change, they are more mature, and this gives the play new energy. The spirit remained the same, but it took on a new inner maturity, color and sound — just like Mantas' songs, which also changed and grew for this play."
This production has been selling out the halls of the Panevėžys Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre for six years in a row and has become one of the most beloved performances by the audience. Now the performance will go on tour across Lithuania, so that audiences in various cities across the country can see this romantic, playful and dramatic story.
“Those butterflies really do fly. And it has nothing to do with a person's age or other life circumstances. Everyone can experience it — love, frivolity, that energy that makes you do crazy things and feel happy. The performance allows us to show and remind you of this,” adds Mantas, inviting the audience to rediscover the story or see it for the first time.
