The director of the play, Dainius Kazlauskas, says that there are not many stories like "Two on the Roof" - finding a new angle to tell about human relationships, presenting the story in an interesting, emotional, and tasteful way is a challenge for both those creating the play and those acting in it, so the director is extremely happy with the result.
In the romantic drama "Dviese ant stogo" full of comic situations, Mantas Jankavičius plays the main role together with actress Adele Šuminskaite. Together with his stage partner, the duo tells the story of the impossible love, longing and expectations of two young people, and reminds us of timeless values. The performance also features Mantas' songs, one of which is the song "Dviese ant stogo", released just a couple of weeks ago and composed specifically for this performance.
"A person's life is not significant. The big things that happen to us seem significant only to us. How do you make your story significant to the person watching it? So that it is understandable, accessible, recognizable, and evokes empathy? I think that was the biggest challenge, and today we managed to do it," says the director.
Mantas says that he and director Dainius Kazlauskas have known each other for many years, but their closer friendship began after the film "Tadas Blinda. Start" at the movie site, where they acted together.
"After this film, Dainius offered me a role in the play "Free Butterflies", which eventually became incredibly successful and ran for almost 8 years. Therefore, this choice to work together was not accidental - I would call us a "success duo", says Mantas. - With Dainius, I could go to the edge of the world, to intelligence, and everywhere else. I believe in him and I believe in the success of this new performance."
The actor and singer admits that the theater genre is dear and close to him, he himself is a frequent visitor to performances, and the dark and non-ordinary space allows him to be with himself, to identify with the characters, and leads to the consideration of existential questions, which is very important and necessary.
"I love theater and I am happy that I have the trust of talented directors. Sometimes it's fun to change my profile, take a break from concert activities, meet and create a relationship with the audience in a different way - theatrically. Wonderful performances await and I am happy to be a part of it," says Mantas.
Actress Adelė Šuminskaitė, who plays the main character in the play "Two on the Roof", is happy that finally there is someone to tell this beautiful story of two people - finally, after a long work in rehearsals and empty halls, the audience heard and felt it. "It's so good to see them listen, to hear them laugh, to feel them grieve together - it gives me a great sense of gratitude."
"Manta and I worked together for the first time, but everything was simple and very pleasant, there were no barriers or tensions," says the actress. - In this performance, there are only two of us on stage, so we felt a complete partnership, trust in each other and strongly supported each other."
