This exhibition is a reflection of my native land in paintings. It is what I feel, see, hear and how I feel. My paintings reveal the most beautiful moments of the western Lithuanian landscape. The colors of the sea have fascinated me since childhood. The sea, lagoons, dunes, wind – it is already in my blood.
Marius Morkūnas is a young generation artist, he realizes himself in various fields of art, participates in exhibitions, was born in 1976 in Klaipėda. The author lives and creates in Kaunas. Creativity accompanied him from early childhood, a strong attraction to art manifested itself from the age of five. When he started attending school, art lessons and clubs were the priority, and when they became too small, he entered the art school “BRAKO” in 1985. Later, he entered, studied and graduated from the Klaipėda Eduardas Balsis Art Gymnasium (1986-1995).
(1995-1999) studied and graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Institute of Arts, Klaipėda Department of Visual Design, Art History major in Visual Design, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Design. He continued his studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 2001. obtained a Master of Arts degree in Visual Design.
The artist has been working in the fields of design, painting and photography for 26 years. Although he has been involved in the creative process for a long time, the first personal painting exhibitions “RUNNING LINE”, “HEARD THE SILENCE”, “FRAGILITY AND BEAUTY OF LINE”, “STOP TIME”, “BETWEEN NATURE AND ART”, “POWER OF COLOR”, “THE PLAY OF LINES” and “SPEAKING WITH A PICTURE” were held only in 2022-2026. The exhibitions traveled to more than 15 cities. Many joint exhibitions were held with the “Blue Art” group in various Lithuanian cities. Later, Marius Morkūnas founded his own group of painters “Indigo art”. The work continues, plein airs and exhibitions are planned for the year ahead. Currently, we have about 10 members. Marius has already held more than 60 exhibitions, over 30 personal and about 30 joint with the group and other painters.
Marius is interested in Japanese cultural art because it provides an understanding of aesthetics in artistic compositions. The works are usually born from photography taken over many years, analyzing, observing, and recording it, which allows the artist to better feel the colors of nature, its pulse, how the sun rises and how shadows fall. The predominant theme of his work is the seashore and the seaside, the artist, who hails from Klaipėda, is always attracted by water, usually gently rippling and calmly swaying in his paintings. It is interesting that in the paintings you almost never see a clear boundary between water and sky, they merge into one, the horizon line can only be imagined, and space thus becomes infinity. The author's favorite motifs are seaside pine trees, stubbornly not giving in to the sea and wind, coastal cliffs swaying in the wind, and, of course, boats.
The paintings are influenced by design, and solidity and moderation of details are valued. The artist sets himself the goal that each work should have peace within it, so that looking at it one can rest spiritually.
The exhibition will be on display at the Palanga Concert Hall until September 10.
