Teacher Stasys Povilaitis – a legend of Lithuanian pop music, the owner of a unique voice and one of the most beloved performers of all time in the country, whose name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of Lithuanian music. Although last fall marked ten years since the day the Maestro left for Anapilin, his work and bright memory are still alive in the hearts of thousands of listeners, and his songs continue to connect generations.
In honor of this outstanding personality and inviting us to relive legendary musical memories together, a gala concert is being held on April 11 at the Palanga Concert Hall. "The best hits of all time by Stasys Povilaitis".
In this special concert, the golden works of Stasys Povilaitis' repertoire will be performed by famous Lithuanian singers: Edmundas Kučinskas, Povilas Meškėla, Ona Kolobovaitė, Egidijus Bavikinas, Ieva Juozapaitytė, Greta Švedkauskė, Laurynas Baškys ("Thundertale"). The soloists will be accompanied by Kaunas Big Band, which will give the works even more emotional depth and solemnity.
The two-part concert program will feature Stasys Povilaitis' most famous masterpieces - "Kristina", "Eidi Eidi", "Sudenginti Bridgetai", "Pago Pago", "Cecilia", "Farewell to the Sea", "Gypsy Eyes", "Dandelion Fluffy", "You Forgive Me", "Shine for Me Again" and many other songs that have become part of the golden fund of Lithuanian music - songs about the joy of life, light, love and the eternal connection between hearts.
An exceptional personality, always elegant and poised, a true gentleman of the stage – this is how Stasys Povilaitis is remembered by his friends and fans, who called the singer the Lithuanian Frank Sinatra. The maestro's discography includes 20 solo albums, the last of which, the double "Golden Hits of the Last Century" was released in 2013. The musician has received numerous awards and prestigious awards – many for his services to Lithuanian music. In 1967, Stasys Povilaitis became the laureate of the Baltic States competition "Liepajas Dzintars", in 1991 he won the Antanas Šabaniauskas Prize, in 1997 he was awarded the "Bravo" statuette for his services to music, in 1997 the performer was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, V degree, in 2007 – the Government Culture and Art Prize, and in 2013 Stasys Povilaitis was awarded the medal "For Merit to Vilnius and the Nation" and received the "MAMA" award for lifetime achievement.
