This weekend, music hooligans "PaGAGnini" will be performing in Lithuania for the first time, promising to break the rules of conventional classical music concerts.
According to a press release, a string quartet from Spain inspired by the legendary violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini will perform a hilarious comedy and classical music show in Palanga on December 13.
The "PaGAGnini" classical music and humor show will feature works by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Pachelbel, Frederic Chopin, Manuel de Falla, Pablo de Sarasatė, and Niccolo Paganini, as well as works from other music genres, such as rock or folk rock.
The string quartet consists of talented musicians Thomas Potiron, Fernando Clemente, Gueorgui Fournadjiev, and Eduardo Ortega, and the show was inspired by the work of the Italian composer Niccolo Paganini, a violin virtuoso and pioneer of modern violin technique, and the desire to convey classical music in an attractive and non-standard way, thus attracting a younger audience.
"Paganini is the world's first rock star - he popularized this genre and performed for huge crowds of spectators. But today the world of classical music is too serious and strict, so young people often do not understand it. We want to show listeners how wonderful this music really is and that enjoying it does not have to be complicated. We do this with humor, so we have fun on stage and share it with the audience," say the quartet members.
The "PaGAGnini" performance is a production of the Spanish comedy theater "Yllana", which has been operating for 34 years, and its concept was conceived in 2007 by Ara Malikian, a winner of over ten top international awards and considered one of the most talented violinists of his generation, who himself has participated in the "Premio Paganini" violin competition.
The originality of the show has earned the quartet numerous prestigious awards, including the title of Spain's Classical Music Performance of the Year (2009), first place in the UK's The Fringe (2009), the German Moerser Comedy Prize (2008), and the title of Audience Favorite at the Chiclana Theatre Festival (2008).
"Imagine playing one of the most complex virtuoso pieces in the repertoire with one of the heaviest instruments in the world, but you do it by jumping in the air, dancing, lying on the floor, kicking, and so on. It's incredibly difficult, but that's exactly what the professional comedians of PaGAGnini do regularly," claims journalist Alvidas Jancevičius in his official review of the event.
The PaGAGnini Quartet, which will arrive in Lithuania this week, will make its debut in our country Palanga Concert Hall on December 13.
